History of Fremont Academy of Engineering & Design
The location that is home to Fremont Academy has a history in the Pomona community dating back to July 1, 1980, when the institution was officially opened. For decades, it served the community as a traditional 7-8 middle school.
The Academy Transformation (2013)
A pivotal moment in the school's history occurred in 2013, when it underwent a major restructuring and rebranding to become Fremont Academy of Engineering & Design (FAED). This transformation elevated the school to a full secondary institution, moving beyond the traditional middle school format.
With this change, Fremont Academy became the only 7-12 secondary school in the Pomona Unified School District (PUSD). This new structure provides students with a unique, coherent six-year educational path focused on science, technology, engineering, and mathematics (STEM).
Philosophy and Focus
The core of the school's new identity is its commitment to an engineering-focused curriculum, which includes the adoption of the rigorous Project Lead The Way (PLTW) program. The school also adopted a guiding principle for student success: following the Design Process to Advance Resilient Scholars (D.P.A.R.S.) toward graduation and post-secondary success.
This focus ensures that students are equipped with critical thinking, collaboration, and problem-solving skills necessary for college and career readiness in a rapidly changing world.
